Sarah Denny

Artist Statement
My artwork is my ability to communicate and connect with others through visual and narrative images. It gives me a sense of pride when others feel emotion due to my work. Throughout my life I have had a desire to connect and communicate with others and I discovered that through my artwork I could accomplish that. With this talent of creating visual illustrations, I am capable of revealing emotion, which gives me a great deal of satisfaction.

My love for the simplistic style of flat colored cartoons and black outlines comes from the phrase "less is more". Implementing this concept, I have developed digital artwork that doesn’t require a lot of detail to elicit an emotional response from the viewer.

It never ceases to amaze me the different reactions people can have to one piece of artwork. I'm never sure just what feelings my art will evoke, but, since laughter is an important element in my life, happiness is what I am trying to provide in my artwork. When I accomplish this, I in turn become happy as well. Very rarely do I create a piece of work that has a deeper or sadder meaning because I believe people already have too many things to be sad about. Making the audience smile or laugh or even feel positive makes me feel incredible.

Thanks to the wonders of the internet, I am able to reach out and communicate with the viewer. People will see my artwork on popular websites, such as Tumblr or Blogger, as well as my personal site.

I believe that owning a piece of art of any kind is an expression of a person's inner self. If I can provide someone with a piece of artwork that makes them smile every time they look at it, I will gladly make it available to them. Being a digital artist using adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I can manipulate images into any size for posters or cards.

I feel successful when I have achieved an emotional response in the viewer. Although money is greatly appreciated, an even greater reward I gain from an audience is knowing what emotional state they are put in when they view the artwork I created.
