Anthony Pearson

Artistic Statement:

The form and purpose of historical objects has always been a fascination of mine.  What life did these objects witness?  What daily uses did they perform?  Who might have handled them?
These are constant thoughts in the back of my mind after viewing such artifacts.
I strive to recreate these thoughts in the mind of my viewer; through my developed technique I hope that my work, just as those that I attempt to emulate, may also withstand time.

After being thrown on the potter’s wheel, I work swiftly to alter each piece by cutting and reassembling with noticeable connection points and seams.  Through high iron clay’s and reduction cooling, I am able to achieve the patina of relics that I desire to imitate.

I am confident that my pottery will be equally as functional and striking as those historical artifacts I admire.
