Brice Gielgens

Artist’s Statement
My work is a direct representation of modern entertainment and marketing. Toiling for hours, I try to convey simple ideas that stick with a viewer, basing these ideas on generalized concepts and characters with memorable twists. Because of this, much of my ideas come from making the ridiculous into marketable art. I do not consider what I create so much traditional art as it is advertising, allowing viewers to read into it as much or a little as they choose. At times, my creative process is much like an infomercial: fast, loud, and catchy, making memorable work fun and legible to every viewer.
To me, the accessibility of my art is key to my future. Studying to be a production artist means that this accessibility is the most important tool in my arsenal. Some may argue that this type of global accessibility is counterproductive to the life of an artist, but I find it to be a welcome challenge. The accessibility of art to different regions and countries means entirely different concepts and it is exactly those concepts I wish to improve upon. As an artist, I am finding a way to bring back my personal interests into my work for school, so that I may create a more precise portfolio, making it less fragmented than previous installments. I believe this will reopen my networking opportunities and allow for more specialized work from specialized clients.
Staying inspired is the challenge that I currently face. Bringing my personal interests back into my work has made that much more possible, as I can create within intended scopes on my own terms. This increases the challenge in creating original work while narrowing my scope. Whether it be new digital painting techniques, new ways to build interesting designs, or new, progressive mediums for my work, I am always on the hunt to stay inspired and skillful. Becoming a better artist has always been intentional, but the means to which I get there are always changing. It is never-ending, which is always promising when finding new possibilities in my career. Marketing and advertising holds a future for me; I can only strive to succeed and I know that I will always be learning.
