Artist Statement
Design permeates and encompasses every part of my life, the things that I see, hear, taste, touch, and smell can all be coordinated into an experience worth living. I see purpose in life as I do so. I keep my designs simple, but also allow for imperfection that humanizes my work. Through the use of symbols, icons, and limiting everything from color pallet to composition continue to develop my design method.
Life is messy, and even the most beautiful and “perfect” face is not symmetrical. I believe that those things, which are not perfect, are truly beautiful. I like to break the rules and for the past three years I have made works and undergone experiments in a fairly new movement known as glitch art. By purposefully misusing technology I show the human element in a digitally dominate age.
Simplicity, imperfection, and visual stenography are things that I try to bring to each work I create. When I design I feel the need to fully understand what I am working on and research things that I can reference as a nod to the history of the piece, and I find the process to be quasi religious in that I pay respect to the past in an effort to keep a historical context to the work.
I have no preferred method or subject, and enjoy autonomy. I embrace change. I love meeting new people and adding new experiences into my collective memory, and I think that these things often influence my creative method. Change is tool that I use to continue learning. I enjoy the challenge to try new methods, and if I find the method useful I add it to my ever-growing creative process.
